About the Role

Our client is a VIC government organization based in Abbotsford VIC. They are currently seeking a Budget Coordinator (Management Accountant) to come in and join their team on a temp contract opportunity until the end of December 2026.

Candidates for this role must have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance, or CA/CPA Qualification
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in a senior budget, reporting and business partnering roles and the management of resources.
  • Proven successful record in leading the development and delivery of quality annual budgeting and monthly financial performance reporting.
  • Previous local, state or federal government experience (desirable)

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Annual Budgeting: Lead the end-to-end preparation, implementation, and internal control of Council’s annual budget in alignment with long-term corporate plans.
  • Strategic Forecasting: Coordinate quarterly reforecast reviews through direct consultation with Branch Managers and Directors to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Long-Term Financial Planning: Support the 10-year LTFP and implement automated, system-based solutions to drive process efficiency.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze monthly variances against budgets and partner with Branch Managers to provide detailed explanations for financial performance.
  • Executive Reporting: Prepare high-level monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Executive team and Council to support informed decision-making.
  • Climate & Leadership: Embed climate considerations into all financial activities and lead initiatives that support Yarra’s emissions reduction and resilience goals.

About You

You will be an experienced Budget Coordinator (Management Accountant) with proven experience and reliability in previous positions

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance, or CA/CPA Qualification
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in a senior budget, reporting and business partnering roles and the management of resources.
  • Proven successful record in leading the development and delivery of quality annual budgeting and monthly financial performance reporting.
